Bringing World Literature to Life Through Film

On September 8th 2026, the English Program, School of Liberal Arts, Walailak University, organized the 4th Film Fair: “From Page to Stage: Students’ Journey Through World Literature” at the Si Thammarat Room, Architecture and Design Laboratory Building (AD), Walailak University.
 
This event was hosted as part of the 3rd year student’s final project in the course World Literature (ENG67-303) led by Asst.Prof.Dr. Mohammed Yassin Mohammed Othman Aba Shaar to showcase the film making skills and the artistic vision of all 3rd year students for all to see. The event commenced with an opening ceremony featuring welcoming remarks by Dr. Kamoltip Klaibanmai, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, Walailak University to officially open the curtains to the absolute cinema that the 3rd year students carefully curated throughout their time studying the course.
A total of 8 out of 16 great short films were selected for screening during the event. Namely, About Barbers, Bad Genius, The Vow, MOUSETRAP, Scooby-doo, Lamb to the Slaughter, ThirTEEN Terrors, and SINs. The short films shown throughout the event were adapted and inspired by all kinds of literary works covering many genres, most notably horror, comedy, and romance.
 
Following the screening of the films, awards were presented to each outstanding film director for their impressive short films. The award includes outstanding cinemography, outstanding costume design, outstanding contemporary adaptation, special recognition for storytelling, outstanding screen play, outstanding short comedy, outstanding short horror, outstanding film editing, outstanding actor, outstanding actress, popular votes and concluding with film of the year. Lastly, certificates were given to the organization team as recognition for all of their hard work for the event to happen.
