The Path to an Interpretation Career: Insights, Skills, and Practical Experience

On 7 August 2026, the English Program, School of Liberal Arts, Walailak University, welcomed Ms. Namphech Phumthanaphat, a professional interpreter with extensive professional experience across diverse fields, ranging from environmental issues to finance, as a guest lecturer at the Spark Meeting Room, Academic Building 1, Walailak University.
 
During the session titled “The Path to Interpretation Career”, Ms. Namphech shared her professional journey and first-hand experiences in the interpreting industry, providing students with valuable insights into the skills, preparation, and professional qualities required to pursue a career as an interpreter.
 
The session also featured hands-on workshops designed to strengthen essential interpreting skills. Students practiced techniques for improving concentration and focus, shadowing techniques, and practical steps for self-directed daily practice, enabling them to continue developing their interpreting skills beyond the classroom.
 
The training is organized as a supplementary session in the ENG63-411 Advanced Translation course, aimed to not only equip students with translation theories but also hands-on experiencs through selected professionals.
