School of Liberal Arts Holds Preparatory Meeting for Sustainable World Heritage Community Development Project

On 24 June 2026, Dr. Kamonthip Klaibanmai, Acting Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, Walailak University, led a project preparation meeting for Sub-project 7, “A World Heritage City Belongs to Everyone: Muslim Community Participation Around Wat Phra Mahathat Toward a Sustainable World Heritage City.” The meeting brought together faculty members from the Schools of Liberal Arts and Political Science and Public Administration, staff from the Center for Academic Services, local experts, artisans, and community representatives.

The discussion focused on planning fieldwork to document the way of life, cultural identity, and cultural assets of Muslim communities surrounding Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, while strengthening collaboration with community leaders, mosque committees, and local occupational groups through a participatory approach.

A key outcome of the project will be the development of an eBook, “Stories and Identity of the Ban Suan Maphrao Mosque Community in the Heritage Landscape of Wat Phra Mahathat,” which will preserve local knowledge, highlight community values, and return valuable information to the community. The eBook is expected to support local economic development, improve quality of life, and foster a stronger sense of ownership of the city’s World Heritage aspirations.

The project reflects the School of Liberal Arts’ commitment to integrating humanities and social sciences into community development while advancing Walailak University’s mission in academic service. It also contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supports the university’s global impact through initiatives aligned with THE Impact Rankings and UI GreenMetric.
